PRESS RELEASE: SOAS directorate block occupied over brutal deportation of SOAS cleaners
University cleaners who won living wage detained after dawn raid
Students and allies at the University of London’s School of School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) have occupied the university today to protest against managers’ attacks on migrant workers.
Nine cleaners from the university were taken into detention after a dawn raid by immigration police on Friday.

21 Mayıs Perşembe günü sabah saat 5’te ev ve yurt baskınlarıyla 14 arkadaşımız gözaltına alındı. Günlerce gözaltında tutulan arkadaşlarımıza, savcılık sorgusunda ise DİSK’in ve KESK’in düzenlediği ‘emek, barış ve demokrasi mitingi’, Alevi mitingi, 1 Mayıs, Newroz kutlamaları, ODTÜ devrim yürüyüşü ve 8 Mart Dünya Emekçi Kadınlar Günü kutlamaları gibi toplumsal meşruiyeti olan, izinli, yasal etkinliklere neden katıldıkları soruldu.

ÖSS öncesi Kadıköy'de yapılan mitinge kara bayraklarımızla katıldık.
Hazırladığımız pankartta yalnızca ÖSS'ye değil, sistemin çeşitli
biçimlerde bizleri hapsettiği, sindirdiği, sınadığı, elediği
hayatlarımıza dair LAF'ımızı söyledik.

This special national issue of the Indypendent Reader (http://indyreader.org) comes out of a gathering held in Baltimore this March called the City From Below (http://cityfrombelow.org), which was co-organized by the Indyreader, Participation Park (a political project centered around a community garden on a reclaimed vacant lot in East Baltimore), and Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, a worker-owned and democratically managed collective project in Baltimore’s Mt. Vernon neighborhood.
